Blogging has become the buzzword of the first decade of the 21st century. Ten years ago virtually nobody had a blog. If you live in a far-off exotic place like La Paz, Bolivia, you could simply write about daily life in the highest capital in the world. If you live in New York, you will have to narrow down things a little bit. You could write a very interesting blog about daily life in the Bronx for example.

The number of niche subjects are virtually unlimited. Which one you choose to write about will to a large extent be determined by your life experience and interests. The point we are trying to make here is that you should first give before you think of receiving. Give your niche audience something that will bring them back over and over, and you have a recipe for success that will eventually make you money.

Once you have your niche subject in place and your visitor count starts to rise, you should decide upon the way to monetize your blog. A good choice is simply to find a company, online or offline, that sells a range of products that will appeal to your target audience. To use the La Paz example again: your La Paz blog would be a good place to sell the lovely Llama wool cardigans they produce there.

A second possibility and one chosen by many bloggers, is to display advertisements on your blog and get paid every time someone clicks on one of those ads. There are a number of companies that offer this option. They find the advertisers ‘ all you’ve got to do is draw the visitors to your blog and then get a share of the advertising revenue.

Whatever way of monetizing your blog you choose in the end, it should never become the primary aim of your blog. You should concentrate on providing good quality content to your target audience. Your blog should be interesting and informative and lure visitors back time and again. With a rising number of visitors your chances of making money with either affiliate marketing or pay-per-click advertising will increase all the time.
